Dietitian Services

A Registered Dietitian is a regulated health professional, who is a credible source for nutrition information. Dietitians undergo extensive education and training. To use the title Registered Dietitian (RD), an individual must complete a four-year Bachelor of Science degree, as well as a Dietitian’s of Canada accredited practicum, which includes at least 1250 hours of training. They must also pass the Canadian Dietetic Registration exam to be registered with their provincial dietetic regulatory body.

Dietitians are trained to provide evidence-based nutrition counselling and education to clients. A dietitian will assess your current dietary intake, physical activity level, medical history, laboratory data (if available) and social history. In addition, the Dietitian will discuss with you your personal health goals and readiness to change. This allows the Dietitian to work with you to determine the best individualized plan for you. A Dietitian can help facilitate healthy behaviour change, by providing strategies and resources to improve your diet based on your needs.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body — including muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, and joints. At Trent Health in Motion, our Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) provide massage therapy in Peterborough, Ontario. As regulated health professionals, held to the highest standards of training and safety. They provide high quality and effective care to help you achieve your health and wellness goals.

  • Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy as a standalone treatment or as part of an integrated treatment plan (such as physiotherapy or chiropractic care) can be beneficial in treating many conditions.

Therapeutic massage works by increasing blood circulation to injured areas. This helps reduce swelling and increases the supply of nutrients required for healing.

Following an injury (such as a sprained ankle or even whiplash), the body often forms tiny matted clusters of scar tissue (called adhesions) as it repairs itself. These fibres can prevent proper healing and make movements feel painful or tight. Massage therapy helps reduce the formation of such scar tissue — or in the case of older injuries, it can help make these tissues more flexible.

Research has also shown that massage therapy is highly effective when it comes to reducing stress, improving mental health, and enhancing the body’s immune functions by relieving the muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems.
